Q

justinmanzana asked:

Yoyoyo, your latest 3D robot is supremely awesome! What program did you use to make that?

A

Heyn Justin…thanks a lot!!

I started using Maya, thinking that I just wanted to do a really low poly model with only a diffuse map, then i decided that I needed to better understand the pipeline of using zbrush and creating bakes.  I took the low poly model and imported it into zbrush to do a high res sculpt, after that I used topogun, xNormal and Maya to do bakes and to refine the geometry.   I then created the textures in Photoshop.  The render was done in Marmoset Toolbag.

thanks for the question

Lil Pup mech I designed and modeled…
Exploring some modeling and texturing.  I was trying to keep the texture fairly simple, relying on using geometric shaped to build up the wear and tear.

Q

john-jax asked:

Hi Tyler I was just wondering what software you used for your train GIF. I assumed you did it on after effects then just sent it to photoshop to make it a GIF. I'd love to know the process. It was fantastic. I'm a huge fan of your style!

A

Hey John, thanks for taking a peek at my art…

I havent done a lot of gif stuff, in fact, that was my first or second time trying to make a gif animation so Im probably not the best person to ask.

This gif/illustration was all done in Photoshop.  I used the Animation feature.  It allows me to quickly mess around with the layers and decide on which layers to show on each frame of animation.  In retrospect After Effects would probably be easier but I dont have it :(

You should try out the animation tool in PS.

Q

doommasterjames asked:

What inspired you to draw as a little kid?

A

I actually grew up in a home where there was a lot of art.  My dad had his oil painting all over the house and my mom did a lot of wood craft art.  I guess I kind of just grew up with art as a normal part of life.

When I was a kid, I mostly liked to draw cartoons, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-men.  I remember sitting with my friends  outside during recess and we would just draw.
